Suncoast teacher Dr. Mary Jo Murray was named a semi-finalist for The National Teachers Hall of Fame. The National Teachers Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that rewards remarkable teachers for their work inside their school and classroom. According to nthf.org, “Currently there are teachers from 37 states and the District of Columbia inducted into The National Teachers Hall of Fame.” Along with being the only facility of its kind, it was also acknowledged by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Dr. Murray is in her 49th year of teaching, having started in 1970 in Tampa, Florida. She began her experience in the school system teaching Physical Education, then moved on to the Mathematics department ten years later in the 1980s. In an interview with Dr. Murray, she said “I enjoy Suncoast, I enjoy the students, and I especially enjoy the Math colleagues,” not forgetting to mention that Suncoast has the best Math department in the state.
