A Letter From The Principal 3/20/2020

Posted on 03/20/2020
Good Morning Charger Nation,

We hope that all of our Charger Families are safe and well.  We know that this unique situation is uncharted territory, but I could not be more pleased with the efforts of our District to keep learning at the forefront while taking every necessary precaution to maintain the safety of our students.  If you are not already aware, students will begin digital, distance learning on March 31.  This online platform for instruction will continue through April 15th at least.   During this period of virtual instruction each of our teachers will have a Google Classrooms for assigning work to students.  Teachers may provide links to video lessons, alternate sources for online tasks, opportunities for virtual interaction with classmates, etc.   We are counting on your support to ease this transition.  While many of our students are familiar with online coursework because of past experiences with PBSC Dual Enrollment, FLVS, and/or Edgenuity, we are aware that there are a number of Chargers who are entering this realm for the first time.  I have asked our teachers to be flexible and supportive with students to reduce their levels of angst and frustration.  Furthermore, I want you to know that our Counseling Services team and our Behavior Mental Health Professional, Mrs. Andrea Smith are available via email should your students need emotional support through the process.
Today (Friday, March 20), we will be opening the school from 11am - 4pm  to allow students to retrieve necessary items for future learning from their lockers.  Students must call to schedule a time and will only be given a 10 minute window to retrieve their belongings.  Students will be asked the location of their locker when scheduling an appointment to ensure that the number of students present on each floor and in each area of the building is kept to a minimum.
Additionally, if you did not complete the District's Technology Survey, but do need to check-out a laptop for your child please notify the school immediately to set up a time for  checking out a laptop device today.
As a reminder, Suncoast High School is a feeding site and grab and go bag lunches are being provided weekdays to students 18 and under.
Thank you for your prompt attention and cooperation.  Please stay current with the District's dedicated Coronavirus website for important information as it is updated regularly and routinely monitor and engage in your child's distance learning efforts.  I am including phone numbers and valuable links for your assistance.  Should you have questions during this digital learning process, do not hesitate to reach out.  Please know that should the District make the difficult decision to completely shut down schools and assign all staff to work from home, Administrators and Office Personnel will all be available via email.
